Founded in 1961, AED is an independent, nonprofit organization committed to solving critical social problems and building the capacity of individuals, communities and institutions. AED works in all the major areas of human development, with a focus on improving education, health and economic opportunities for the least advantaged in the United States and developing countries throughout the world.
AED has 26 centers of excellence that focus on building skills and knowledge to help people improve their lives. AED's Health Literacy Practice is housed in the AED Center for Social Marketing and Behavior Change (CSMBC).
AED/CSMBC has helped shape the field of health literacy. We look forward to helping others more effectively communicate their health information so that more people, particularly underserved populations, understand it and can get the help they need to live healthy, productive lives.
