AED's work in the area of health literacy has included:
- Training more than 1,000 people in the corporate and public health fields on health literacy principles;
- Serving on the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) health literacy expert panel and roundtable;
- Partnering with IOM to assess and address health literacy at a community level by involving and engaging youth and adults;
- Developing Medicaid's outreach strategy and materials for its low-literate audience when Medicaid moved 85,000 Washington D.C. beneficiaries into managed care;
- Conducting consumer research and reviewing materials to improve Medicare's communication to older Americans;
- Working with leading national government agencies and organizations in the field of tobacco cessation around health literacy; and
